General Jewellery Care

We strongly recommend that you have your State Property jewellery professionally cleaned and serviced yearly to ensure that the gemstone settings are secure, and that it retains its lustre for a very long time.

We provide a full grooming service for all State Property jewellery pieces where we take the best care of your jewellery. This includes the polishing of metal, cleaning of gemstones, tightening of prongs, repairing of clasps, and earring backings. Get in touch with us for more details.

Gold Jewellery

To care for your Gold jewellery, we recommend that you regularly clean them. You may do this by soaking the piece in a mild mixture of hand soap and water, and use a soft brush to clean hard-to-reach places. Rinse thoroughly in warm water and dry gently with a microfibre cloth.

Each of our 18K Gold pieces also comes with State Property’s Gold Polishing Cloth. Our polishing cloth has been infused with chemicals effective at cleaning 18K Yellow / Rose / White Gold. Gently buff each piece with the polishing cloth to achieve a brilliant shine. Avoid using this polishing cloth on plated items, be it an 18K Gold plating or a Black Rhodium plating, as this cloth is mildly abrasive on platings, and may accelerate the de-plating of your jewellery.

Do take extra precautions if there are pearls or gems set on your piece, as different materials have different needs and tolerances to cleaning agents. You may refer to the Pearls or Gems sections for more information.

For a more thorough cleaning, bring the piece back to us. Contact us for more information about our Jewellery Grooming Services.

Gemstones

Regularly check the setting of your gemstones to ensure that they are all secure. If any of the settings are loose, get them tightened with us or at your local jeweller.

As for keeping it clean, soak the piece in a mild mixture of hand soap and water, and use a soft brush to clean hard-to-reach places. Rinse thoroughly in warm water and dry gently with a microfibre cloth.

Certain gems like amber and coral require special care because of their porosity. Do not expose them to the chemicals in hair products, fragrances and cosmetics. To clean them, avoid using any cleaning agents, and simply wipe clean with a soft cloth.

Avoid applying heat (from a hairdryer, for example) to dry the pieces as some gemstones are sensitive to significant changes in temperature. We would also advise against putting more brittle gems, like emeralds, in an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner.

To bring that sparkle back to your gemstone jewellery, we recommend the TownTalk Polish Jewel Sparkle solution. Contact us if you're interested in purchasing this product.

Pearl Jewellery

Caring for pearls starts by understanding that they are made of a delicate organic material that are vulnerable to acids, alkanes and extremes of humidity.

To preserve the radiance of your pearls, avoid getting them come in contact with cosmetics, hair spray and perfume. As such, we always recommend wearing your jewellery last, after you have applied your make-up, styled your hair, and spritzed your perfume on. We recommend that you also wipe the pearls gently with a soft cloth when you take them off as perspiration may also affect the pearl's lustre.

Having said that, do not be afraid to wear them. Leaving pearl jewellery stored away for long periods may cause pearls to dehydrate, affecting its lustre.

Avoid placing your pearl jewellery in ultrasonic jewellery cleaners as they may damage the pearls.

To clean and care for your pearls, we recommend the TownTalk Polish Pearl Tissues. Contact us if you're interested in purchasing this product.

Silver Jewellery

To care for your Sterling Silver jewellery, we recommend that you regularly clean them with the State Property’s Silver Polishing Cloth. Our polishing cloth has been infused with chemicals effective at cleaning Sterling Silver.

Gently rub each piece with the cloth. You may use a soft brush to clean hard-to-reach places. Rinse throughly in warm water and dry carefully with a microfibre cloth.

For a more thorough cleaning, bring the piece back to us. Contact us for more information about our Jewellery Grooming Services.
